Two years ago I lost 80 pounds and completely rebuilt my body. On the outside, everything looked like a success story. My biological age tested at 38, seven years younger than my actual 45. But my labs told a completely different story than my body did.
After 20 years as a cybersecurity engineer, I treat the human body the same way I used to treat a complex system: you don't guess where the vulnerability is, you test for it. So I ran a deep functional lab panel on myself, the same kind of testing I now use with clients, and found three hidden threats quietly crashing my hardware underneath a body that looked, by every outside measure, like it had it figured out.
The first was mold toxicity. My mycotoxin markers came back at six times the normal limit. This one surprised me the most, because mold doesn't require a visibly moldy house to accumulate in your system. It can come in through coffee, grains, nuts, or a water-damaged basement you walked through years ago, and you can be eating clean, training hard, and still be carrying a real toxic load from exposure you never consciously registered.
The second was what I'd been calling my “3am problem”, waking up for no reason, wired and unable to fall back asleep. My labs showed elevated sodium and potassium, the actual signature of a nervous system burning through its final stress reserves. That's not a willpower issue or a sleep hygiene issue. It's a body that's been running on adrenaline for long enough that it's started waking you up in the middle of the night just to keep itself upright.
The third was heavy metals. Aluminum came back at five times the limit, sitting quietly in the background the entire time I was doing everything else right.
Here's the part that matters most: the fix for all three of these is actually simple on paper, sauna protocols and targeted binders, nothing exotic. But you cannot guess your way to that fix. You have to test first to know what you're actually dealing with, run the real protocol built around your own numbers, and then retest to confirm it's working, not just assume it is because you feel a little better.
That's the whole reason I do this work the way I do it. A body that looks rebuilt on the outside can still be hiding real, measurable problems underneath, and the only way to find them is to actually look.
